Only “Silent-Fly” gliders NOT under power, may be flown, beyond the 300 metre radius “Flying Zone”, within the “Restricted Area Gliders Only”.

No I.C. engine powered model shall be flown without a muffler, which must be effective and capable of reducing exhaust noise from the model to a maximum of 82 dB(A) measured at a distance of no more than 7 metres.

All powered models shall be noise tested and safety checked before being flown at Wrayford Field.
No I.C. engines, or electric motors, shall be ground run outside of the permitted flying hours.

The directions that model aircraft shall be flown from the flying site shall be limited:
This is defined as existing between the compass angles of 180 degrees and 290 degrees from the pilot’s point of control, and from a compass angle of 115 degrees and 180 degrees measured from the 300 metres radius line, as shown on the aerial flying map. (Version 6)
This shall provide a total No Fly Zone of 110 degrees, plus 65 degrees beyond 300 metres.

Guest Flyers
Club members may invite friends to fly at the Club’s field as guests, providing that:
(a) The guest flyer is a fully insured member of the BMFA and must be registered with the CAA.
(b) They must possess an appropriate BMFA ‘A’ Certificate as a minimum flying qualification.
(c) The guest flyer is over 16 years of age on the date requested.
(d) The request is approved by a quorum the Club Committee.
(e) The host member must be present and accept full responsibility for the conduct of their guest(s) during the time they are present at the Club’s flying field.
(f) Any breaches of the Club’s rules by the guest flyer(s) may reflect upon the host member.

(a) The accepted transmitter mode for the Club is ‘Mode 2’. New members will be trained to fly in this mode. (Unless they have previously learned to fly radio-controlled models using a different mode)

(b) This will ensure that pilots are normally available to help those who may require assistance when flying

(c) All model flying instruction shall be undertaken by approved Club instructors.
To become as a Club instructor, a Club member must seek approval from the Club Committee and hold a BMFA ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate of competence.
They must be capable of demonstrating to the committee that their flying is to that standard.

(d) Any Club member who holds a BMFA “A” certificate, and has held the same for at least six months, may assist, but not instruct, other model flyers.

(e) Any member who undertakes the training of another member without first obtaining, approval from the Committee, shall be deemed to be in breach of these rules and may have their membership terminated.

(f) All pilots using the flying site must be familiar with, and adhere to all BMFA guidelines.

(g) The ‘PEG ON’ system of frequency control shall be used at all times by users of 35Mhz equipment. The pilots name should be written on the peg.

(h) All 35 Mhz radio transmitters MUST NOT be switched on in the vicinity of the club flying site, without first putting your peg on the frequency board. (Odd Frequency Numbers are preferred)
It is recommended that members place their peg on the frequency board, on arrival.

(i) After each sequence of flights, or transmitter test(s), your peg should be removed from the board.
especially if another pilot is using the same 35Mhz transmitter frequency on the day.
ALWAYS DISARM THE FLIGHT BATTERY AND/OR SWITCH OFF THE RECEIVER, BEFORE SWITCHING OFF THE TRANSMITTER.

(j) Users of 2.4 Ghz radio control equipment are NOT required to use the “PEG ON” System.

(k) Members must display their E&DRCC membership badge at all times when at the flying site.

(l) All models and field boxes must remain within the pits area when not being used and unaccompanied spectators shall remain within the viewing area.

(m) Novice pilots shall receive flying training ONLY from approved club flying instructors.
They must achieve a BMFA ‘A’ certificate before being allowed to fly solo. (fixed wing or rotary wing)

(n) When flying, all pilots and instructors must stand in the pilots area designated for the day.
This is so pilots can communicate their intentions to each other, and any warnings given by non-flying members can be heard by all.

(o) Before starting an engine (or electric motor), make sure the transmitter is switched ON, the receiver is switched ON, the model is in flying condition, and it is securely restrained. (By a reliable helper, a safety bench, or by a restraining yoke firmly fixed in the ground), and ensure that nobody is standing in line with the propeller.

(p) Having started the engine make sure the exhaust is not discharging over fellow members, their vehicles, other models, or equipment.

(q) ALWAYS Check all controls for their correct operation before every flight. Frequent radio range, control mechanism, and battery voltage checks are strongly recommended.

(r) Models are NOT to be flown over the pilot’s area, the model pits, the car parking area, and the spectator areas, all located within the No Fly Zone.
The flying of any model within the NO FLY ZONE is PROHIBITED at all times.

(s) Pilots about to land their models must SHOUT “LANDING”, or in the case of engine failure, they must SHOUT “DEADSTICK”. Once such a call has been made NO other model may land, or take off, until the first model has cleared the strip, or if the engine stops on landing, they must seek permission from other pilots before venturing onto the strip.

(t) Pilots must NOT land, or take-off, any model between themselves and other persons.

(u) The pilot of any model being test flown SHALL request all other pilots to stand down for the duration of the flight, and only after a successful radio range check has been carried out.

(v) All radio control equipment with an installed “failsafe” MUST have it enabled to close the throttle as a minimum requirement.
ALL electric powered models MUST be enabled to the “MOTOR OFF” condition.
The operation of any “failsafe” shall be verified at the same time as the 82dB(A) noise test.

(w) Pilots of fixed wing models and helicopters must agree appropriate flying slots on the day.
Both types of model MUST NOT be flown at the same time.

(x) All mobile phones MUST BE SWITCHED OFF in the pits area, and on the flight line.

(y) In the event of a model landing away from the landing strip, the pilot MUST leave their transmitter in the pilot’s area, when retrieving the model.
In the event of a model landing away from the flying site, a maximum of two persons may enter a field to retrieve the model. This shall be done with maximum care to prevent damage to the crop.

(z) In the event of a full-size aircraft approaching the flying area, pilots flying models MUST either land their models immediately, or fly them at low altitude (less than 50ft), to avoid any cause for concern.
All members present have a duty to look out for, and to listen for nearby aircraft, and give warnings.

(aa) All children must be supervised by their parents, or guardian, at all times.

(bb) No child under the age of 14 may start an engine, or carry a model with the engine running, unless under the direct supervision of a full member of the Exeter and District Radio Control Club.

(jj) All radio controlled model aircraft MUST operate on either the 35 Mhz, or the 2.4Ghz radio frequency bands. The use of 27 Mhz or 40 Mhz radio control equipment is not permitted.

(kk) The position of the pilot’s area will depend on the wind direction.
The positions of which, will be decided on the day, by a majority decision of the pilots.

(ll) All vehicles must be parked alongside the hedgerow adjacent to Hestow Road, or by the fenced hedgerow safety barrier, located within the field.

(mm) All vehicles must observe a 10 mph maximum speed limit when at the flying site.
