FLYING SITE RULES (Wrayford field: Issue 6)
A maximum of FOUR model aircraft may be flown at any one time.
Only “Silent-Fly” gliders NOT under power, may be flown, beyond the 300 metre radius “Flying Zone”, within the “Restricted Area Gliders Only”.
No I.C. engine powered model shall be flown without a muffler, which must be effective and capable of reducing exhaust noise from the model to a maximum of 82 dB(A) measured at a distance of no more than 7 metres.
All powered models shall be noise tested and safety checked before being flown at Wrayford Field.
The directions that model aircraft shall be flown from the flying site shall be limited:
This is defined as existing between the compass angles of 180 degrees and 290 degrees from the pilot’s point of control, and from a compass angle of 115 degrees and 180 degrees measured from the 300 metres radius line, as shown on the aerial flying map. (Version 6)
This shall provide a total No Fly Zone of 110 degrees, plus 65 degrees beyond 300 metres.
Guest Flyers
Club members may invite friends to fly at the Club’s field as guests, providing that:
The guest flyer is a fully insured member of the BMFA and must be registered with the CAA.
They must possess an appropriate BMFA ‘A’ Certificate as a minimum flying qualification.
The guest flyer is over 16 years of age on the date requested.
The request is approved by a quorum the Club Committee.
The host member must be present and accept full responsibility for the conduct of their guest(s) during the time they are present at the Club’s flying field.
Any breaches of the Club’s rules by the guest flyer(s) may reflect upon the host member.
All model flying instruction shall be undertaken by approved Club instructors.
To become as a Club instructor, a Club member must seek approval from the Club Committee and hold a BMFA ‘A’, ‘B’ or ‘C’ certificate of competence.
They must be capable of demonstrating to the committee that their flying is to that standard.
All pilots using the flying site must be familiar with, and adhere to all BMFA guidelines.
The ‘PEG ON’ system of frequency control shall be used at all times by users of 35Mhz equipment. The pilots name should be written on the peg. It is recommended that members place their peg on the frequency board, on arrival
Members must display their E&DRCC membership badge at all times when at the flying site.
Pilots about to land their models must SHOUT “LANDING”, or in the case of engine failure, they must SHOUT “DEADSTICK”. Once such a call has been made NO other model may land, or take off, until the first model has cleared the strip, or if the engine stops on landing, they must seek permission from other pilots before venturing onto the strip.
Pilots must NOT land, or take-off, any model between themselves and other persons.
The pilot of any model being test flown SHALL request all other pilots to stand down for the duration of the flight, and only after a successful radio range check has been carried out.
All radio control equipment with an installed “failsafe” MUST have it enabled to close the throttle as a minimum requirement.
ALL electric powered models MUST be enabled to the “MOTOR OFF” condition.
The operation of any “failsafe” shall be verified at the same time as the 82dB(A) noise test.
Pilots of fixed wing models and helicopters must agree appropriate flying slots on the day.
Both types of model MUST NOT be flown at the same time.
All mobile phones MUST BE SWITCHED OFF in the pits area, and on the flight line.
In the event of a full-size aircraft approaching the flying area, pilots flying models MUST either land their models immediately, or fly them at low altitude (less than 50ft), to avoid any cause for concern.
All members present have a duty to look out for, and to listen for nearby aircraft, and give warnings.
All children must be supervised by their parents, or guardian, at all times.
No child under the age of 14 may start an engine, or carry a model with the engine running, unless under the direct supervision of a full member of the Exeter and District Radio Control Club.
All dogs must be kept on a leash at all times.
No models may be taxied into, or out of the pits area, at any time.
All pilots shall avoid flying across the line of sight of novice pilots, under instruction.
Visitors & Guests not covered by BMFA First Party insurance are not allowed on the flight line, or in the pits area, when flying is taking place, unless accompanied by a Club member.
All radio controlled model aircraft MUST operate on either the 35 Mhz, or the 2.4Ghz radio frequency bands. The use of 27 Mhz or 40 Mhz radio control equipment is not permitted.
The position of the pilot’s area will depend on the wind direction.
The positions of which, will be decided on the day, by a majority decision of the pilots.
Electric powered models must NOT be made “LIVE” in the car park or the spectator area .
Electric powered models shall be made “LIVE”, ONLY at the flight line, or in the model pits.
Motor batteries shall be ”DISARMED” (disconnected) as soon as possible after landing.
No helicopters, of any type, shall be flown beyond the boundaries of Wrayford Field, unless requested to do so by a quorum of the committee.
